The Dance
I once told someone special in my life that we seem to do this "dance" together. More or less we fall back in "to" each other, in some ways comfortably and in others not so much. But for many years that's the way it was.
As I was driving to my destination today, this came on the radio and nostaglia overwhelmed me.
Written by Garth Brooks, who as you can see is in the photo with me, it says it all so beautifully.
(Go easy on me now, this photo was taken 1993-4ish when I worked for a country music station, the hat I like, the shirt not so much)
"The Dance"
Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared
'neath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end
the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance
Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I a king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have changed it all
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end
the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance
Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
but I'd of had to miss the dance

I've never heard this song,(not a fan of much country) but I loved this. It's something I tell my kids when they're disappointed over something or (as once has happened) have a broken heart, "would you give away the chance to have experienced it all just to have avoided the end result". Some of my bittersweet memories are my best memories.
Good post, and I like the hat too. :)
Hmm... You know something? You two look like brother and sister! What a great shot!
I can so relate to this post. I have a special person in my life where we kept doing 'the same dance', ....some of it was good, some of it was uneasy, but--- we always come back to one another at some point in our lives.
I think everyone has that 'person' in their lives. Weird.
Great post! Love that picture!
Ooooo I'm jealous! I'd love the chance to meet Garth! I'm a HUGE fan and "The Dance" is one of my all time favorite songs.
Kathi, you really should give this one a listen! Hell, for that matter, give a whole Garth Brooks album a listen...I didn't like country at all before him!
